FAQs

2025 FAQs

Q:  Who can play?
A:  The program is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8.

Q:  When does registration open?
A:  Registration for our Fall 2025 season will be open on our website on or about 4/1/25.  We do have a capacity limit, so we recommend registering early.

Q:  When does the season start and end?
A:  Games will start right after Labor Day and will end in mid-November before Thanksgiving. There may be some preseason practice time in early September, which is TBD.

Q:  When will my child’s games be played?
A:  Games are played on Sunday’s between 8:30am-2pm and Thursday’s 5:30pm-9:30pm.  We anticipate several hundred participants this year and therefore exact scheduling will not be available until late August.  We appreciate your patience until the schedule comes out.

Q:  Where are the games played?
A:  Games will be played at fields in the Northern Bergen County area, including Mark Lane in River Vale and Pascack Valley High School.

Q:  My child plays another Fall sport, can he/she still play Flag?
A:  Absolutely.  Many of the kids in our program play other sports in the Fall including tackle football, soccer, baseball/softball, and hockey.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A:  Games are one hour and very rarely go over.  Flag football is a fun, fast paced game that does not require endless amounts of practice.  Teams will usually practice a few times early in the season, but for the most part the time commitment is the one game per week.  Many teams will meet up before games for 15-30 minutes to practice/warm up.

Q:  What equipment is required?
A:  We will supply each player with the reversible NFL flag jersey and flag belt.  All the kids will need is a mouthpiece and water.

Q:  Can I form a team in advance and enter it into the league?
A:  We have been managing flag football for over 10 years and have found that pre-formed teams can create a competitive imbalance.  Therefore, we do not allow pre-formed teams.  However, we are always looking for volunteer coaches and if you volunteer you can ensure some control over your roster.  Coaches will participate in a pre-season player draft.  The surest way to ensure your child plays with their friends or kids from their town, is to help coach and be a part of the draft process.

Q:  Can I request that my child be on a specific team or play with a specific friend?
A:  Due to the large number of participants, we cannot accommodate such requests.  During the drafts, coaches are encouraged to match players so that at least 1-2 kids are from the same town if possible.  This is not always possible.  However, we have also seen friendships born on the flag football field between kids who have not met each other before.  If your child isn’t on a team with kids he/she knows, view it as an opportunity to branch out and meet new friends.

Q:  Do you offer a Spring league?
A:  We have received a lot of requests to offer a Spring league, but currently do not offer this due to scheduling conflicts and lack of field availability.  If we are able to offer such a league in the future, it will be communicated through our website.

Q:  How can I help?
A:  We are always in need of coaches.  Each team requires a head coach and an assistant coach.  We have many resources available for coaches who would like to assist, but don’t have prior experience.  If you would like to coach, please sign up during registration.

Q:  What is required to be a coach?
A:  You must have (1) proof of completion of the Rutgers youth sports safety course (visit - https://youthsports.rutgers.edu/courses/) and (2) a letter from your town that you have cleared a background check that meets their standards for coaching youth sports (please contact your town for further guidance).

Q:  I have decided to withdraw my child, what is the refund policy?
A:  Our refund policy is as follows:  100% if requested prior to August 1st; 50% between 8/1-8/15.  There are no refunds after 8/15 as we will have incurred most of the costs for your enrollment.  Website/credit card processing fees are non-refundable.
